Plum Marzipan TartWe are not back home yet, but I can not live without baking something delicious, especially because it is summer and we have all this amazing fruit: peaches, apricots, and plums. I love them.

This cake is very simple especially since it uses store-bought pie dough. What I liked most was that the marzipan not only brings a great almond flavor but also acts as a barrier and despite the plum juice, the dough stays crisp for days, a big difference with other similar tarts.

These tarts without molds, also known as galettes, are a peasant French dessert, which does not aspire to be perfect. So if you are afraid of the fancy fruit tarts this is a great option.

This is perfect as a dessert with whipped cream or ice cream, or in the evening with a delicious cup of coffee or tea. Enjoy!

Plum Marzipan Tart

Ingredients:

  • 3 large or 4 medium plums
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 store-bought pie dough, I like Wholly Wholesome brand
  • 100 grams of marzipan
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 375F or 190C.
  2. Wash and chop the plums into 8 sections each.
  3. In a small bowl mix the sugar, cardamom, and flour. Stir well and mix with the plums.
  4. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or an aluminum sheet.
  5. Spread the dough on parchment paper or an aluminum sheet. Cut the marzipan into thin slices or crumbs and place it on the dough, leaving 1 inch free on the edge.
  6. Place the plums, starting from the outside to the center.
  7. Fold edge of the dough and sprinkle the top with sugar.
  8. Bake for 28-36 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Let cool before cutting and serving.
